Who you are hiring
Derek Domeny, Cabinet Maker and Founder
Derek is a Boise, Idaho native. He spent more than two decades on the tools in a high-end custom cabinet shop before starting this business in 2018. The trade came first. The company came after.
That order matters when you hire someone. The man who takes the measurements in your kitchen is the man who cuts the parts, fits the drawers and hangs the doors. Nothing gets handed down a line and explained twice.
Vera Domeny is Office Manager and a member of the company. She keeps the schedule, the paperwork and the phone straight so Derek can stay in the shop.
The approach has not changed since day one: quality craftsmanship in every single product, starting with quality materials and then applying skillful craftsmanship from Cut, to Prep, to Finish. As Derek puts it, we take pride in our work, not just the finished product.
How the work goes

Four stages, in order. Nothing moves forward until the stage before it is right.
Measure and design
We measure the room ourselves and lay out the run to suit it. Door style, drawer banks, appliance and sink clearances, shelf heights and how the cabinetry meets the existing trim all get settled on paper before a single sheet is cut.
Cut
Good work starts with quality materials. Hardwood and sheet goods are picked for the job, then boxes, face frames, doors and drawer parts are cut to the sizes on the drawing. Accurate cutting is what makes the rest of the build behave.
Prep
Joints are fit, drawer boxes assembled, hardware bored and every face sanded. This is the slow part, and it is the part nobody sees. It is also the reason doors line up and drawers run straight once the cabinets are on the wall.
Finish
Stain and topcoat go on last, and the finish is where a custom job proves itself. On past work we have matched a stain to existing woodwork already in the home so the new cabinets read as part of the house instead of an addition to it.

The legal entity is Splinters, LLC, doing business as Idaho Custom Cabinets. The contractor registration number above is the one to check, and the Better Business Bureau file on the company was opened in October 2018.

Caldwell, Nampa, Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Star and Kuna.
Cabinets are designed and crafted for both homes and businesses across those seven cities. Everything starts with a conversation about the room and a set of measurements taken on site, so there is nothing you need to drive to. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm. Saturday and Sunday are closed.
